This is a sad old song But it runs at a fair old pace By the time you've worked this out You'll be on your next train And what of children that are badly planned? Upon that fateful night I should have cum in my own hand Fair grow the ones that know how to harm hearts Old grow the ones that have to flee with their lives I met another one on the bus to Preston He was going further north 'Cause he had to feed a horse And as he rattled on he stole my sleep from me He made me think of you and the ones I cannot keep Fair grow the ones that know how to harm hearts Old grow the ones that have to flee with their lives All's quiet in the north-west sky All's quiet so just don't ask why I've had to flee This is an old, old song And it runs at a fair old pace By the time you've worked me out I'll be on my next train And you'll wave me on

about

"This is a sad old song and it runs at a fair old pace. By the time you've worked this out, I'll be on my next train"

Flee is a tale written while on the run and on tour in the North West of England.

A version of this track appears on Ben's 2005 EP love;defenestrated. After its release, Ben's newly-met fellow singer/songwriter Rich McMahon took the track and added some beautiful harmonies and percussion. The track was forgotten about until the two remembered about it over a chance meeting at a vintage fair. Ben unearthed the track and was amazed by the mix and sent it away to be mastered for release. While it was being mastered, Rich passed away unexpectedly. Here's to a shining light.

“Flee is a soft and delicious slice of near-nakedly drawn musings, that in truth is quite perfect for these sultry days. Beyond that the only thing you need know is that you ought to investigate Ben Calvert further for yourself.”
Losing Today

"The dark humour and stark honesty of Ben Calvert is paralysing, and charmingly so.”
The Fly

"Dark modern folk haunted by the shadows of Nick Drake, Bert Jansch and The Smiths"
Joe Murphy, blang!

"Love; defenestrated is a collection of beautifully crafted songs that leave you looking for more. You will instantly fall in love with Ben Calvert’s voice and music."
antifolk.com

“Although Ben Calvert has a folk heart, it is a folk heart which has been broken on indie dancefloors.”
