Green Ginger Wine

by Ben Calvert & The Swifts

1.
Green Ginger wine warm me from inside Cold as a fox drowned in the docks Windsor wants the homeless off the streets The princess wants to wash the beggars' feet Where do I roam? Ain't got no home Streets wild and wide Royals warm inside Windsor wants the homeless of the streets Meghan wants a better meal to eat We're not so far from this place This could well happen to you or me Green Ginger wine warm me from inside Cold as a fox drowned in the docks The homeless want a better place to be But Windsor wants to wash them from their streets

about

The headline reads 'HOMELESS MAN DIES OUTSIDE COMMONS'. There is a short-lived outrage.

The morning of the next day: In a city centre shop doorway there are cardboard boxes flattened out into a bed, squashed water bottles, a crumpled damp sleeping bag, a walking stick, scattered tissues, and a makeshift toilet made from a chocolate tin. Quality Street. Celebrations.

Later this month a Hollywood star will marry a prince.

Green Ginger Wine is a song of homelessness, social mobility, the failing economy and hope for change. All the profits will go on aid packages for the homeless in Birmingham. Food, clothing, sleeping bags. First Aid for the Homeless.
